Situated in large grounds and located near the bustling town of Castlenau Montratier, it is ideally placed to explore the many picturesque villages of the Lot region. In 1291 the town was rebuilt around a large central square and now offers several shops, good bars and restaurants under its cosy arcades.
Soak up the sun and take a plunge in the beautiful leisure lake just outside the town center. Visit medieval bastide towns, the house is within easy reach of Cahors, with its ancient bridge, Pont Valentine. There is a wonderful Saturday morning market and of course you are in the heart of the wonderful black wines.
The home is situated in peaceful countryside, in an idyllic setting for a relaxing holiday. Should you be looking for more leisure activities during your holiday then there is no lack of facilities. There is an excellent 9-hole golf course and tennis courts just down the lane. Or stay at the home for some table tennis in a fantastic open-ended barn, play boules (floodlight in the evenings) all this followed by a dip in the swimming pool.
The property is approached by a long driveway which leads to the large main house, a separate cottage and an additional guest accommodation, the newly renovated cottage, The Bothy (which can be let as an extra option if required).The main house is set on 3 levels, the entrance opens to a wonderful hallway with an original old open fireplace. There is a charming beamed sitting room with large open fireplace and comfortable seating. The original old front door opens out to a small terrace ideal for enjoying evening drinks.From here is the master bedroom, with a large 6ft bed and an en-suite bathroom. The bathroom has a bath (with shower attachment), basin and WC, and is a “Jack & Jill “bathroom as it leads in to a small single child’s bedroom.
Upstairs there are 3 large bedrooms (low head height in places) with 6 ft beds or which can be separated into 3ft single beds. On this floor is a large shower room with walk in shower, basin and WC. There is also a separate bathroom with bath, basin and WC.
Original wooden stairs lead down to the lower floor with a second sitting room. There is a large open fireplace, comfortable seating and (freeview satellite) TV. There is a separate WC. In between the sitting room and the kitchen-dining room is a utility/walk-in pantry with washing machine and sink.
The beautiful kitchen is exactly as a farmhouse kitchen should be with an antique wooden butcher’s block in the middle of the room. This kitchen is very well equipped with a large gas cooker, American fridge/freezer, 2 dishwashers, double sink, toaster, coffee machine, microwave and many cooking implements. The dining area has a table and chairs for up to 12 people.
Facing the main house is a separate cottage with 1 bedroom which has a 6ft bed and a separate bathroom with bath and basin and WC. Outside the cottage is the original old bread oven and it is possible to use this to cook pizzas in.
In the garden from the main house kitchen door way is a wooded pergola, which provides an idyllic open dining area, perfect for your BBQ and everyone to sit together and it also provides a shady place to sit in the heat of the summer.Across the lawn, in front of the pool area is a small pool house with shower and WC. The large 12m x 6m pool is heated, with Roman steps and a surrounding grassed area with views overlooking the countryside. All around the house is surrounded by lawns, hedges and flowering shrubs and there are further grounds to enjoy walks.
For additional accommodation there is a newly renovated cottage, The Bothy for 4 people. It provides 2 bedrooms, 1 with double bed and 1 twin bedded room, a shower room with walk-in shower and basin. There is a separate WC. There is a kitchen/ sitting room. The kitchen area is equipped with a hob and sink. If you don’t require The Bothy as additional accommodation, it will not be let out separately.
All linen is included but please bring your swimming pool towels. There is a WiFi but neither Kingfisher or the owner are liable for any loss or interruption (such as storms etc) of internet service.
