Several restaurants are within walking distance of the house and a whole range of shops, including a supermarket are to be found down at Port au Penne on the River Lot, a five to ten minute walk away. Maison Recluse was just lovely, and we really enjoyed the terrace with its fabulous views over the countryside. The house was at the end of a narrow one way road which was very quiet, but only a couple of minutes’ walk from the medieval centre of the village. Again, the facilities were very good and there were also a small selection of games and a plentiful number of books to choose from. The pool was great and a perfect temperature! The garden was small and on a slope but we didn’t really use it – most of the time we were either in the pool or on the upstairs terrace. The garden has a plum tree in the corner though and the fruit was delicious. The beds were very comfy and each bedroom has a fan to keep them cool at night which we definitely needed. Penne d’Agenais is a very pretty bastide village and we certainly enjoyed our visits to the creperie! We had a very good evening meal at Restaurant Peyragaude. The Basilica is quite amazing and we thoroughly enjoyed the fireworks display above it as well as the food and dancing at Bidou at the bottom of the hill on our first evening. There are a variety of shops (baker etc) down the hill at Penne Port and an Intermarche on the other side of the river at St Sylvestre, and these were all we needed. There are other pretty villages to visit nearby and we had a great day out in Cahors. Mrs J,W.St Ives.
The house is ideally configured for a family holiday, with a large living room and 1 bedroom on the upper level, with a huge shaded balcony and spectacular view. The lower level has one further bedroom and another shaded patio beside the pool. The house is very well equipped and extremely comfortable.
Its proximity to the village with 3 very good restaurants and pleasant streets was another benefit and pleasure. The nearby town in the valley had a great boulangerie and an adequate supermarket. The weekend market was a bonus for fresh fruit and vegetables. Mr & Mrs W. London
We think that Maison Recluse makes an excellent base to explore this lovely area. It is also a great house to just relax in, by the private pool or enjoying the high view from the fabulous deep covered terrace. With the attractive village and several good restaurants on the doorstep there is no need to go further afield if you just want to do nothing in particular most pleasurably. The furnishings and amenities at the house are good with plenty of space and privacy if sharing a holiday with family or friends. Mrs A/M G, Nottingham.
We had a wonderful time thank you, it was very peaceful and relaxing and the weather was not a problem for us. Mrs E.J, London
We had a super holiday, thank you and would recommend both the house and the area as there was so much to do in and around for both adults and children.
We would certainly consider returning – something we have never done in 20 years of visiting France. We always try to go to a different region but Penne d’Agenais and Maison Recluse is pretty special!! Mrs Sue F, Little Hallingbury.

Yes we did enjoy our holiday thanks, the villa is lovely and the view amazing. Mr & Mrs H, Yeovil
Maison Recluse was great – the views were fantastic. The weather was lovely and we managed to see lots of the area without getting too tired. Noticed that Le Peyragude was closed for a special delivery! We tried La Maison sur la Place on Thursday and it was wonderful. All in all a great holiday – thanks. Mr & Mrs R. C, Ipswich
We enjoyed our holiday in Penne d’Agenais very much. Beautiful house, amazing view, lovely pool, nice weather and a good and kind service of Kingfisher Holidays. Thank you very much. I hope we will return some time. M. Lamaker, Holland
Just a quick note to say Maison Recluse was a fantastic gite far better than we anticipated! I think the photos on the website don’t do the accommodation justice! Well appointed and spacious and in a beautiful location/village and what a panoramic view from the balcony! And we were blessed with beautiful weather for the 2 weeks sunny and about 30 every day apart from the last Friday when it was overcast but warm. Mr P L., Birmingham
We had a delightful holiday at the Maison Recluse. We hope that we will be able to return some time! Mrs M.J, Denmark
