Nestling into the side of a hill with far reaching views of the rolling Quercy countryside, the characteristic stone house and cottage of Lacoste Bas is a peaceful and privately located home…

…in a glorious location. The property can be rented as a comfortable three bedroomed house sleeping up to six people or as a house with adjacent cottage, sleeping up to eight people.

From the tranquility of the surroundings it would be easy to feel that you had dropped from above into the remotest French countryside, but there is plenty to see and do in close proximity. Lacoste Bas is less than 6kms from the pretty village of Bourg de Visa with a restaurant, shop and Tuesday night market. Beauville is only a little further away with a restaurant and popular and very atmospheric Night Market on Friday evenings. There is also a local regional restaurant at Miramont de Quercy, only 10 minutes away. Each weekend morning is a large market in the centre of the nearby town of Moissac. This ancient, monastic town with its splendid Abbey and Romanesque cloisters is crossed by both the river Tarn and the canal du Midi. The bastide town of Lauzerte is only a ten minute drive with a supermarket, more restaurants and a bar which holds regular musical events.

The tourist office in Lauzerte can also give information on fishing in the area and tennis courts. Bikes are for hire from the nearby village of Montaigu de Quercy, where quad bikes are also available and for the more adventurous there is a parachute school at Bouloc. There is an interesting nine hole golf course, just over half an hour away at Sauveterre. “Rikikiplage” children’s playground and picnic area with BBQ is where locals and visitors alike gather to swim in the river Saone, and is only five minutes away. The popular swimming lake at Montaigu de Quercy also has a beach, pedalos, and a café bar and Montaigu is also home to a bustling Saturday morning market. There are many more pretty villages, larger towns and Chateaux to explore within an easy drive.

Entrance to the house is at the top of the driveway. The solid oak door opens into a hallway lined with bookshelves and immediately ahead is the exit onto the terrace. There is a WC and wash hand basin, and the three bedrooms and bathroom can be found down a corridor to the left. Two of the bedrooms have sloping ceilings which allow head height at one side of the room, one having a double bed and the other, two singles. The third bedroom has a double bed and attractive arched window which looks out over the garden.

In the newly fitted bathroom is a small corner bath, a wash hand basin and a luxurious, walk in, massage shower. Linen is included except for your swimming pool towels. (Pool towels can be hired.)

The very attractive living room is also on this level. This unusually shaped room with high beamed ceiling has windows on nearly three sides and stunning views over the valley. There is a wood burning stove sitting in a Toulouse brick fireplace and a very large satellite (Freesat) TV, and DVD, the covered dining terrace can also be accessed from this room. Wi-Fi is available (neither Kingfisher nor the owner are liable for any loss or interruption of service.)

Stairs from the lounge descend directly into the spacious, beamed kitchen/dining room, which also enjoys the views and many original, charming, stone features. There is an antique settle along the wall and a wooden table which comfortably seats six. The fully fitted kitchen is well equipped with microwave, toaster, dishwasher, washing machine, electric oven, gas and electric hob, fridge/freezer, coffee machine and a wood burner.

From the kitchen, a short flight of steps leads up to the garden level and the covered dining terrace which is ideal for eating or just relaxing on long, hot, summer days whilst taking in the lovely views of the valley.

Detached from the main house is a small cottage providing additional accommodation. French windows open off a small terrace into a large double-bedded Living room with en-suite shower room and WC. There is a TV/ video player and a selection of tapes supplied. The cottage also has its own kitchenette with sink, microwave and cooker, with a door back onto the terrace which is furnished with a table and 2 chairs.

For the more energetic, the lawned garden is ideal for ball games, and a flight of steps takes you up to the alarmed, (salt) swimming pool and terrace, with magnificent views over the roofs of the house and cottage. There are sun loungers and chairs so that you can take in the uninterrupted views of fields and woodlands stretching out below. Well worth the climb! Table tennis and a BBQ are available. There is a path which leads on from the lawn, past a stone barn, down to pretty wooded grounds. In the garden there are some small caves, so little children would have to take care.
