Holidays in South France – Large Villas to Rent for Family or Group Holidays

If you have your heart set on having your holidays in South France this summer, you won’t necessarily want to rent a small cottage for just immediate family. You may choose to take your holiday in a larger property instead – to mark a special occasion such as a birthday or retirement, to holiday with extended family, groups of friends, or to team up with another family for your vacation.

Renting a larger villa for your holidays in South France gives you the benefit of both worlds: you can spread the cost of the accommodation, reconnect with friends and family, and enjoy all the fun and benefits of holidaying in a group. Larger parties mean you can share the babysitting, cook meals in turn, and take it in turns to drive and visit the local vineyards for wine tasting.

There are other reasons to spend your holidays in South France as a large group too. This could be to attend a wedding celebration or take part in an organised activity holiday – such as painting and writing vacations, yoga or Pilates holidays – or to enjoy an adventure based activity.

A Picturesque Château

Many people who choose their holidays in South France dream of renting a picturesque château – and staying at the pretty Château d’Aix will give you a fantastic holiday to remember. The 13th century castle is based just 6km from the town of Tournon d’Agenais and is set in two acres of mature grounds.

The castle comprises of a main house and a separate apartment and can sleep up to 24 people in the 11 bedrooms. If you need extra accommodation, Maison du Parc is a cottage in the grounds which can be let separately.

It’s not a luxurious château, but it is a wonderful place to stay. The owner is based on site too which is handy if you have any queries or need any more information about the area.

Properties with Games Rooms and Sports facilities

If you are holidaying with children, something to think about is: ‘how do we keep the kids occupied’? If you are holidaying with another family, the children will generally amuse themselves but it always helps if there are things to do on site.

In addition to a swimming pool, many of our large villas have tennis courts and/or games rooms which the children – and adults – will love.

Some examples of this are: the 16th century farmhouse Cambou Haut (and the adjoining cottage Cott) not far from Montaigu de Quercy. Together, the properties sleep up to 12 people and benefit from an all weather tennis court and games room with a pool table and table tennis table. Also near Montaigu de Quercy is Les Razes which sleeps up to 14 people and has bikes, a ping pong table and the key to the local tennis court to use during your stay.

Coeur de Treilles and Logis de Treilles (6km from Montcuq) benefits from a games room, and is set in 20 hectares of vineyards. The two properties can be rented together, to sleep up to 24, or rented separately. Games facilities include a trampoline and a ping-pong table.

The charming farmhouse, Les Places, near Sérignac village is set in 25 acres of stunning farmland and its rural location is great for exploring the countryside by foot or bike. It has a table tennis table, boules area and darts board and you can also play badminton and volleyball.

Two Adjoining Properties

If you are holidaying with friends or another family but want your own privacy at times, renting two adjoining properties provides the best of both worlds. As mentioned above, Cambou Haut (and adjoining cottage Cott) and the properties Coeur de Treilles and Logis de Trellis are ideal for this.

Other properties that can be rented by two families or groups of friends are: Sarda, between Agen and Villeneuve-sur-Lot, which have six bedrooms and sleep up to a dozen people. It is set in 13 hectares of land including woods and a garden.  Other similar properties are: Bordeneuve, which also has a cottage in the 16 hectare grounds called Maison d’Ami, and together they sleep up to 10 people.

Castans Haut, 6km from Lauzerte, sleeps up to 10 people and can either be used as one property or an internal door can be closed to divide the properties into two. Les Places also has an adjoining annex and, together with the main house, offers accommodation for up to 14 people.
