About Montaigu-de-Quercy

Montaigu-de-Quercy is a hillside town with restaurants, shops, and a picturesque lake where you can swim, relax on the beach, go diving, or hire boats. It’s a French get-away full of charm, as you take a trip back in time and wander the narrow streets, visit the central square and admire the picture-perfect half timber-framed houses. This medieval town offers views over the surrounding countryside, which all adds to the magic of your holiday experience.

This small town, population nearly 1,500, has a history that can be traced back to the 12th century. Originally a castle was built to fortify the town and fend off attacks from the English, under the command of King Richard I (also known as Richard the Lionheart). Now however, only part of the castle walls remain as evidence of the original fortifications.

Today, Montaigu-de-Quercy is a lively place to stay with some excellent facilities including a tourist office, supermarket and bakery. Best of all, however, is the thriving Saturday market where you can buy all sorts of regional specialities including wine, cheese, and meat; or you can stock up on fresh fruit and vegetables to take back with you to the villa.
