Within Dausse is a fertile valley known as the “Garden of France”, where some of the food that you will buy and eat at the local markets or restaurants will be produced. Popular in the village are the fun-filled weekly night markets, in July and August, where you can enjoy music, dancing and gourmet delights. The night markets sell a host of local products such as wine, cheese and souvenirs for a lasting memento of your stay.
However, if you are holidaying outside of the peak summer season, there are several daytime markets nearby. Saint-Sylvestre-sur-Lot, which is only 7km away from the centre of Dausse, has a weekly Saturday market. In Pujols, there is a Sunday market and you may find that this town is worth visiting on more than one occasion as it is considered one of the prettiest villages in France.
Attractions in and around Dausse
Some of our cottages and villas in Dausse are within walking distance of the bakery and village shop, so you do not need to travel far when stocking up on the delicious local fruits, vegetables, and other necessities. If you prefer to eat out, there is a takeaway pizzeria, as well as a superb restaurant called Le Moulin de Dausse, which has excellent reviews.
Le Moulin de Dausse is run by a Dutch couple who are hugely welcoming and offer the highest standards of service. They offer a set menu with exciting and new combinations of food in attractive surroundings. When dining at Le Moulin de Dausse you can either choose to sit within the cosy lit restaurant or, on warm evenings, outside in the open barn.
If you like being active, it’s a wonderful destination for bike rides and family walks in the countryside. Another popular activity is riding and at Verger de Troupenat you can enjoy the local scenery while on horseback. The owners are keen horse riders and have stables just around the corner from their villa. While on these treks you can discover sloping hills and can see the vast fields of sunflowers.
If you are holidaying with children and you fancy something a bit different then there is the Grottes de Fontirou, which is just 25 minutes from the centre of Dausse. These are underground caves for you and your little ones to explore. You will be guided around by an experienced tour guide for 40 minutes in the caves, which are at a regulated temperature of 14 degrees, to ensure that you stay comfortable throughout. You will be able to see seven different rooms filled with formations such as stalactites, stalagmites, columns and draperies, all of which will be carefully lit.
If you’re feeling slightly more adventurous then there are nearby attractions for you to visit with your family such as Walibi Aquitaine, which is an amusement park for all ages of children and adults. This park is a little way from Dausse and will take you about 50 minutes to drive but it will be well worth the journey. This amusement park has both water based rides and rollercoasters, so that all members of your family can have the most fun possible.
Monflanquin is just 19km from Dausse and is said to be one of the most intact historical examples of a medieval bastide town, and also one of the most beautiful towns. If you are visiting Dausse around the same time as the Monflanquin Medieval Festival, it’s well worth taking a look, especially if you are holidaying with children. It includes exhibitions of falconry and the locals dress up in ancient costumes to add to the atmosphere.
