All of our holiday cottages are located within the beautiful Lot Valley, a rural and lush green area of south west France with many interesting, ancient and pretty bastide towns. Situated to the south of the Dordogne and north of Toulouse our holiday properties are located in a circle of approximately 50 miles from the Lot River, in an area between the towns of Cahors and Villeneuve-sur-Lot.

About our holiday cottages

Each of our holiday cottages, small, medium or large is offered in good condition throughout and all come with a pool. Our holiday cottages are suitable for all age groups and can be enjoyed by couples, families and large parties alike. The self catering aspect of a holiday like this is ideal for those wanting a relaxed and varied break.

Our self catering holiday cottages in the south of France provide great family accommodation and make the ideal base from which to explore the surrounding countryside. Many of our holiday cottages have bed linen and towels provided or this can be hired and some have satellite TV and video or DVD players. Outside and all of them have barbecuing facilities with a terrace you can sit out on and enjoy an al-fresco meal and all have at least the shared use of a private swimming pool.

Whilst a lot of the holiday cottages enjoy rural locations, they are never located too far from your nearest small town or village. Most villages will offer at least the basics from a bakery to a butcher, a chemist and a post office and many will have a bar/restaurant and a small supermarket. if you need to do a bigger shop, head for one of the excellent and very large hypermarkets such as those at Leclerc, Auchan and Carrefour or in the nearby towns of Cahors, Villeneuve sur Lot, Fumel and Agen.

Each of our holiday cottages has details and information on the nearest shops and their opening times. Many of the shops however, close for lunch and only a few will open on Sundays. Although you may find the local shops shut from time to time, there are always the markets. Local markets are held throughout the region and offer a fabulous array of fresh seasonal produce. The French weekly markets are still an important way of life here and you can even sample the produce before buying it.

France is a nation of food lovers and our holiday cottages give you the chance to enjoy the local produce the way it’s meant to be enjoyed, al-fresco amongst friends and family and with typically French ingredients on offer, you may wish to get creative and produce something different, rather than stick to the old English barbecue routine of bangers and sausages.

We can also recommend caterers who will come to your holiday cottage and cook a meal of your choice for you and your party. This is ideal for when you would like a high quality, typically French meal, but without having to travel anywhere.

About the Lot Valley

The Lot Valley is a truly wonderful setting, the ideal location for a rambling holiday or horse riding and the perfect place to relax, unwind and take things easy for a while. You can stroll through the ancient hamlets and really get a sense of what it’s like to slow down. The Lot Valley is much greener than other typical French holiday destinations. The terrain is a mixture of rolling hills, wide valleys, small farms, and pretty market villages and there are very few main roads with virtually no traffic but it’s not all peace and quiet; if there are members of your group that like to live life at a faster pace, there is a wealth of adrenaline sport on offer in the region including; Parascending, Parachuting, Hang Gliding, Mountain Biking, Quad Biking and Canoeing.

Cahors is a busy, picturesque little town, world famous for its “black wines” which are actually a lovely deep dark red colour. Some local wines to look out for on your travels are Domaine des Amandiers, Clos Bican-Ségur, Domaine des Gravettes, Les Hauts de Saint-Georges and Point de vente Côtes d’Olt. Full bodied, they are the perfect complement to red meats and fish. The old town around the Cathedral has a large attractive market, shops and typical French pavement cafés and restaurants many of which are canopied by established Plane trees.

The old town of Villeneuve was once surrounded by a fortified wall with six towers and eight gateways. Just two of these remain today; the Porte de Paris and the Porte de Pujols, both of which are easily seen as you approach the town from either direction. The Porte de Paris was built in the 14th century and is representative of the town, in as much as it is built of a mixture of stone and the red brick of the “pink city” of Toulouse.
