*To book this property please contact the owners A well restored stone-built typical tobacco farmhouse on the edge of a pretty riverside village within 8 kms of the market town of Cahors. Douelle is a thriving village with shop, bakery, restaurants, bar and the river Lot, all within 400m of the house. There are tennis courts, boat hire and river swimming in the village. The surrounding countryside is very lovely and fertile with vineyards, walnut groves and small tobacco fields, while the steep hillsides are well wooded, all providing excellent variety for walking, riding, or bicycling. The house and grounds, which extend to 11/2 acres, overlook the village and are completely private. There are terraces and grassed areas near the house and a wooded slope leads directly to the hill above. There is a barn with access from the garden to a large games room/studio with ping pong etc. Built on the side of the hill the house has, at street level, an entrance hall, garage (with 4 bikes), washing machine, cellars etc.
A staircase leads to the first floor and garden and terrace. On this level are the fully equipped modern kitchen (with its own door to the garden), main sitting/dining room with fireplace and wood burning stove, master bedroom with double bed, dressing room, and bathroom with bath, basin and WC. The top floor is reached either via the internal stairs from the sitting room or via the outside staircase. There, the two double bedrooms have twin beds, and the bathroom has shower, basin, bidet and WC. There is also a mezzanine sitting room/study with occasional bed for seventh person. Duvets, blankets and pillows are provided. There is no television. The house is comfortably and traditionally furnished to a high standard by the English owners. A telephone is installed and, for the colder months, oil-fired central heating. The property is not suitable for small children.
