La Fromagerie is a beautifully restored coach house and part medieval building in the grounds of Gaillardou, a large, ancient fortified farmstead overlooking the picturesque valleys leading to the River Lot. Most of the farm was rebuilt as a Model Farm after the Revolution and now has a Maison de Maitre , cottages , barns, pigeonnier and is set in its own 28 hectares of spectacular pasture and woodlands.
The accommodation has 4 bedrooms ,4 bathrooms and 5 WCs to sleep up to 7 people . The entrance has a covered terrace with outside table,chairs and a gas BBQ.
The front door leads onto a hallway and WC, off this there is a beamed dining room with a wood burning stove. The kitchen is well equipped with electric cooker, gas hob, dishwasher, microwave, fridge-freezer, electric kettle, toaster ,etc and plenty of utensils. Leading from the kitchen is the utility room with washer, dryer and C.H.boiler.
The sitting room is well furnished with a large screen TV/cinema, (Sky free channels and French) plus Blue-ray DVD player - comfortable sofa, chairs etc ; the lower level leads onto a private patio and swimming pool.
The swimming pool is 10 x 4.5m,with surrounding child safety ledge and Roman steps. Adjacent is a walled Table Tennis court and a grassed games area.
On the ground floor are 2 bedrooms- one double bed ( 4ft 6 ) and en-suite shower room and the second with 2 single beds and it`s own en-suite shower room and W.C.
Granary stairs lead from the ground floor to the upper floor where there are 2 more bedrooms, a dressing/nursery room with a cot and storage space and a small library.
The 1st bedroom has double bed (4ft 6 ) and it`s own shower room ; the second,single bed , own en suite bathroom with bath, overhead shower and wc. Hair dryers and linen are included and a baby`s cot and high chair are available.
Although there is no phone ( so please bring your mobiles) it is possible to connect to the internet if needed
The Woodland Walks are well marked out. The farm lies on a major bird and butterfly migration route and the limestone soils host a variety of rare orchids.
An off road biking circuit is available-bring your own bikes! Pets are welcome by arrangement
Prayssas is only 4 kms, with restaurants, boulangerie, epicerie, etc and both day and night markets in the summer. Agen and Villeneuve sur Lot are 25 minutes away with a wide selection of shops and restaurants and year round cultural events. The major cities of Bordeaux and Toulouse are 1hr 30mins on the motorway.
Golf, water sports and fishing are all available within 20 mins drive. Prayssas has a Riding School with accompanied treks (suitable for children and beginners)
There is an Art Studio in the pigeonnier which you are welcome to use -Courses can be arranged with local artists in painting or clay modelling. For musicians your stay could coincide with some of the Musical Courses held in the region, notably Clairac Music Festival, and Monflanquin Baroque Festival-details available.
